Box Office Report: “Croods 2” Wins Thanksgiving Weekend
BY SCOTTIE KNOLLIN
American holidays typically lead to record-breaking box office weekends. This year, however, that hasn’t quite shaken out. Since opening on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, Universal and DreamWorks’ “The Croods: A New Age” has picked up $14.22 million and $9.71 million for the weekend. That’s enough for the number one spot at the box office. It’s also a hefty draw for movies opening during the pandemic. However, in total, this weekend’s box office marks the lowest Thanksgiving holiday weekend in modern history.
With major markets like New York City and Los Angeles still closed, “The Croods 2” was only able to open in 2,211 theaters.
In second place, body-swap horror film “Freaky” earned an additional $770,000. “The War with Grandpa”, now ending its second full month of release, ended the holiday in number three.
The only major wide release left on the release calendar is “Wonder Woman 1984”, which will release on Christmas Day in theaters and on HBO Max.
